It should be noted that the English samples here (G25), are likely the Kent samples from 1000Genomes or HGDP, and are not necessarily representative of the English as a whole. If they follow suit with the Wellcome Consortium genes (1958 Cohort), then there are certainly more Eastern shifted individuals, in line with the Figures from Martiniano et al, that Molfish presented above, which would place them closer to the South Dutch samples. I'm probably one of said individuals

I donĺt doubt that you know more about this than I do. I know there are some very intelligent people on this forum. I am very interested in the origins of the English.

No worries, I don't know much at all compared to many people here, but we all have our areas of interest.

I also get too high Scottish. It was 29% last time, and I hoped it might drop this time, but instead it increased by another 10%. At the same time my English and Irish decreased.

Tracing back to my gggg-grandparents, I am on paper:

    5/8 South-eastern English (62.5%)
    1/4 Irish (25%)
    1/16 Northern Irish (6.25%)
    1/32 German (approx 3.1%)
    1/64 Welsh (approx 1.5%)
    1/64 Scottish (1.5%)

    My results:

    Scottish: 39%
    English and northwest European: 36%
    Germanic Europe: 10%
    Irish: 9%
    Norway: 6%

    My mum is on paper:
    1/2 South East English (50%)
    3/8 Irish (37.5%)
    1/8 Northern Irish (12.5%)

    She gets:
    England and northwest European: 34%
    Ireland: 31%
    Scotland: 28%
    Wales: 7%

    My dad is:
    3/4 Southern English (75%)
    1/8 Irish (12.5%)
    1/16 German (6.25%)
    1/32 Welsh (approx 3.1%)
    1/32 Scottish (3.1%)

    He gets:
    England and northwest European: 64%
    Scotland: 24%
    Ireland: 10%
    Sweden and Denmark: 2%

Obviously the random nature of genetics means paper percentages arenĺt totally correct, but we all get too much Scottish.

Itĺs not just that we are northern English and itĺs being mixed up with Scottish either, we are very south eastern English. Between us, our genetic communities are:

    South east England
    Central southern England
    East of England
    Greater London

With the more precise communities of Surrey & Sussex, and Hampshire, Berkshire & South Oxfordshire.
The communities match the paper trail for our English perfectly.

Odd that I get 10% Germanic Europe and 6% Norway when my parents get 0% for both!

Still, fun times getting an update!

Welcome to the 'South East English aren't really English' club. It's a pleasure to have you on board. Between my Siblings and I we share 3 of the 4 same communities as your family, although my brother did come out resoundingly ENWE (84%), I most certainly did not!!

Strange, now Dad gets Sweden and Denmark along with Norway? And the amount of Scottish is still out of line (we do have some but not that much, even with the extended regions).
If there's any truth to the above, it's ancestry from before any paper records or ~1500 AD.

Obviously the Levant half for me comes from Mom, but then where did the extra Aegean come from? Fragmented Ashkenazi?

    Me:
    Levant 50%
    Southern Lebanon & Damascus
    Lebanon

    England & Northwestern Europe 23%
    Germanic Europe 12%
    European Jewish 4%
    Aegean Islands 4%
    Scotland 4%
    Northern Italy 3%

    Dad:
    England & Northwestern Europe 46%
Early Connecticut & New York Settlers 1700—1975
    Germanic Europe 21%
    Scotland 14%
    European Jewish 6%
    Norway 5%
    Northern Italy 3%
    Wales 2%
    Sweden & Denmark 2%
    Ireland 1%

    Mom:
    Levant 100%
    Communities:
Western Levant - Southern Lebanon & Damascus
Northern Lebanon & Mount Lebanon - Mount Lebanon

Ha thank you! Well at least this gives me some English, on FTDNA I donĺt get any (0% England, Wales & Scotland)! We do seem to be a confused group.

Have you tested with 23 & me? I daresay, that will muddy the water. But 0% E, W & S on FTDNA!!! I'm taking it you got a reasonable amount of Irish to soften the blow?

Iĺm so jealous! Ancestry didnĺt give me this community for some reason! Do you have ancestry from London?
