There seems to be a new update up at Ancestry.

I'm very pleased.
It was my second test in March. They gave me 99% Eastern Europe and 1% European Jewish.

Now I have 5 % Baltics (probably my german ancestors from Prussia) and 3% Germany

My known Welsh ancestry is on my dad's side, but that's only one 5x great grandparent. My mum has several ancestors from areas bordering Wales but none are known to be Welsh. Two of my maternal great great grandparents are unknown so I have no idea about their ancestry, but they were most likely English or mostly English.

My ethnicity estimate is still pretty awful but this will be neat when they apply it to your matches. They’re supposed to be able to separate your matches into maternal/paternal side without having a parent test. That will be interesting.

SideView is a ground-breaking new technology from AncestryDNA that can sort our matches and biogeographical ancestry onto parental sides. It's just gone live today. AncestryDNA have developed a new methodology known as SideView which allows them to separate out the DNA inherited from each parent throughout the genome without the parents taking a DNA test. SideView will be used to power a number of new DNA features at AncestryDNA in the coming months. It will eventually allow us to see our matches separated by parental side and there will be genetic community and journey patterns for each parental side. The sides will be labelled for all of our matches down to 8 cM but the methodology is not perfect and there will be around 15% or 20% of our matches that aren't labelled. There will also some people with both parents falling in the same group and their matches will be labelled as both sides. This applies to about 3% of the AncestryDNA database.

hell yes, France is looking much better - grandma's inheritance looks like it's France, Malta, Ireland and minor Germanic. Awesome. Even the confidence is now 2% to 21% for my French assignment. Very happy with this. Baltic is a bit high, but overall very pleased. Everything else makes more sense now.

Overall my initial impression is that it's more accurate. My dad has no known Scottish ancestry, so the reduction makes sense (it could be adjacent Irish or English for sure). Early 1750 German ancestry is likely still being consumed by Northwestern Europe, but that makes sense. I'm glad that he now has some France back.

Mom's is also good. She mostly has one English parent and one Irish/Scottish one so that splits quite evenly. The Norway/Sweden is an unknown, but her maternal grandmother's family was all from East Anglia in England so it could be some distant carry-through maybe.

EDIT 1: and actually just looking at the Parent Breakdowns for mom, it does assign one parent all the English and other other nearly all the Scotland & Ireland; and the parent with all the English also has the Norway & Sweden sections, so it must be some Anglo-Saxon holdover; so that makes sense.

Very interesting! Do you have known Irish ancestry? I know that many of the Catholic Irish gentry fled to Spain and I guess Portugal too. Also many Irish served in the militaries of Spain and many other Catholic states until the mid 18th century.
