Does anyone know about haplogroup C-Z5899 and it's presence in South Asia? Looks to be a South Asian haplogroup but couldn't find much on it. This is the closest clade I could find: https://www.yfull.com/tree/C-Y28069/

It looks to be clustered in western India (it looks like there are a lot of Gujarati samples there), but wasn't sure if that was just because of sampling. I wanted to pose a question that I posed in the Y-DNA South Asian haplogroups thread. I've been studying haplogroups in more detail to understand South Asian migration patterns.

I've been wondering about C-Z5899. Has anyone come across this while looking at HW kits? I'm pretty confident that this is an AASI haplogroup - Razib wrote an article on it: https://www.brownpundits.com/2020/05...-haplogroup-c/

Here is the parent haplogroup: https://www.yfull.com/tree/C-F3393/. It looks to be clustered in western India (it looks like there are a lot of Gujarati samples there), but wasn't sure if that was just because of sampling.

There are 14 samples from India. 12 of the 14 samples are from Gujarat. 1 sample from Andhra Pradesh. and another sample isn't very descriptive - just says India.

There are also two samples from Pakistan, and three from Bangladesh.

I'm wondering why it seems to be so clustered in Gujarat. I think it was found it in some Nepalese Brahmins as well, and also in Tarkhans based on my reading of the threads.

But was curious why an AASI group would be so clustered in western India. Shouldn't it be in S India? Let me know if my thinking is wrong here about a western Indian origin for C-Z5899. Any thoughts would be most welcome! Thanks for your help everyone.

Its due to higher frequency of testing in Gujarat and nothing else. C-K98 is not a West Indian haplogroup; its a pan South Asian haplo.

Here's a C-Z5899 Brahmin from West Nepal, paternal origin is closer to Kumaon border in Farwest Nepal.

I guess its related to Ancient North Eurasian/ANE (Kostenki) which was C-Z33130* and Sunghir was C-Y37006. Related to ANE layer of AASI??

No, he is a male. It has to do with Migration F2 chip perhaps. The nearby Rajput from Arrah district, Bihar is Q1b-L275.

2 in a count of 152 Bahuns from 23andme + 1 Bahun from Pokhara from an academic study. And 2 kit among some 28 Chhetris.

Both Q-L275 and Q-L56 among both.

One of the Qutb-Shahi Awans from Khushab is also J2a-L198.

Beside Bhadouria MP Rajput, this Punjabi Muslim India sample is also among J2a-L198>M419*. This line is rarer compared to the more common J-Y9346

If it I was traceable, Bolnat would've posted it. The rawdata database (EBI database) and the original study do not disclose any info on any of these G25 Indian Punjabi Sikh, Hindu and Muslim samples.

He's sample '22413'. He's perhaps on G25.
