"Three haplogroups J2a-M172, Ra1-M17 and R2a-M124 harbour approximately 85% of the paternal ancestry of the Lakshadweep. The most frequent haplogroup was hg R2a-M124 followed by hg R1a1-M17"

Can u provide the link? Of course its an island so genetic diversity would be reflect the initial founder populations.

Is M17 a junk SNP? It is not on YFULL.

I think it is pretty solid.
But it is deletion (https://www.yseq.net/product_info.ph...0e06b6401b130e), so folk go with other SNPs at about the same level R-M512 and R-M198.

Strangely they have included R2 and L in South Asian haplogroups while placing J in West Eurasian. These 3 should have been placed in a single category IMO. They have also placed R1a under unresolved category (unresolved origins I suppose) LMAO. Then it's not surprising considering that Rai and Chaubey also authored this paper.

I guess the route for them goes from Island South Asia to Europe.

Malta boy had R haplogroup, so R2 is definitely linked with Ancient North Euresian people.

I am referring to R1a which Arlus pointed out is unresolved according to the authors of Lakshadweep papers.

Likely R1 and R1a too [and of course the Q lines]. R1a is younger than R2, but both are older than the Malta boy.

So a 15000 year string of R1a and R2 is missing in the ancient DNA record.
And for M198 M417 Z645 the missing part is even longer. The first Z645 is from ~ 3000 BC.
