G25 coordinates for ethnic minorities from China

The following includes around 170 samples from the People's Republic of China of mostly ethnic minorities. Manchu, Mongol, Hui, and Han samples from Guizhou, Koreans from the Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture, and Manchu from Liaoning.

The samples originate from datasets made publicly available by Chinese labs on zenodo.org; plenty of data is still out there, so hopefully, more G25 coordinates soon to come.

It's a good start but it's far from enough.

The Manchu and Mongol samples are all from Guizhou in Southwest China, which means that they are likely heavily admixed with the locals, and may not be the best representatives for Manchus and Mongols in their native homelands in Northern/Northeastern China.

I'm more interested to see how native Guizhou Hmong-Mien and Tai-Kradai ethnic groups plot on this graph, such as Miao/Hmong, Dong, Shui, Bouyei, Gelao, etc.

These Manchu and Mongolian samples were from Guizhou if I am correct. Most of their ancestry and haplogroups resemble a striking similarities with the local Han populations.

There's a dozen or so Manchu samples from Manchuria as well. Anyway there's an entire dataset on zenodo of maybe around 60 Manchu samples from the North of China.

I'm more interested to see how native Guizhou Hmong-Mien and Tai-Kradai ethnic groups plot

Awesome work. I wanna see how other Tai-Kradai groups from South China plot on this graph (such as Zhuang, Hlai, Bouyei, Dong, Sui, Gelao, Mulam, etc.), so far I've only seen Dai and they're plotted quite close to Kinh_Vietnam and to VNM_BA. I know other Tai-Kradai tribes would probably plot quite close to Kinh as well, but it's still interesting to see their results nonetheless.

Yep, it really confirmed that Viets/Kinh are predominantly Tai-Kradai and are genetic brothers to Tai-Kadais in Southern China including Dai, Zhuang, Laotians/some Northeastern Thais, Northern Thais despite being culturally heavily Sinicized and speaking an Austroasiatic tongue. It would explain why Kinh/Viet overlap significantly with Tai-Kadai peoples in term of phenotypes.

Here's a paper on the ethnolinguistic diversity of Vietnam which also contains many Tai-Kadai populations, which I would be very grateful if the results can be uploaded to David's G25: https://academic.oup.com/mbe/article...31?login=false

Vietnam features extensive ethnolinguistic diversity and occupies a key position in Mainland Southeast Asia. Yet, the genetic diversity of Vietnam remains relatively unexplored, especially with genome-wide data, because previous studies have focused mainly on the majority Kinh group. Here, we analyze newly generated genome-wide single-nucleotide polymorphism data for the Kinh and 21 additional ethnic groups in Vietnam, encompassing all five major language families in Mainland Southeast Asia. In addition to analyzing the allele and haplotype sharing within the Vietnamese groups, we incorporate published data from both nearby modern populations and ancient samples for comparison. In contrast to previous studies that suggested a largely indigenous origin for Vietnamese genetic diversity, we find that Vietnamese ethnolinguistic groups harbor multiple sources of genetic diversity that likely reflect different sources for the ancestry associated with each language family. However, linguistic diversity does not completely match genetic diversity: There have been extensive interactions between the Hmong-Mien and Tai-Kadai groups; different Austro-Asiatic groups show different affinities with other ethnolinguistic groups; and we identified a likely case of cultural diffusion in which some Austro-Asiatic groups shifted to Austronesian languages during the past 2,500 years. Overall, our results highlight the importance of genome-wide data from dense sampling of ethnolinguistic groups in providing new insights into the genetic diversity and history of an ethnolinguistically diverse region, such as Vietnam.
