Yes - there were 5 ancient U8a samples reported in the Posth et al study, dated at around 15,000 ybp, in Germany and Belgium, so that suggests a European hunter-gatherer origin for U8a.

I am Tage Blytmann, of mainly Danish descent with some Swedish. My mother's Haplogroup is U8a1, and mine have been listed the same U8a1. I can trace my great grandmother back to about 1820's, and family lore places her as having come to Denmark from central Sweden(?) I am intrigued by the fact that Haplogroup U8a1 seems to be quite rare, as different sources lists the ratio at about 1:1,600 people tested in the sample group. I have now arranged with my sister to take the entire mtDNA test from Family Tree, and I will be happy to share some of the results with truly truly interested in this Haplogroup. I don't expect to have the results until about July, 2019.

When you get the full sequence results, I can compare them to the U1a1 samples in my database, or you can compare the results to the GenBank samples listed on Ian Logan's webpage.

Blytmann. My family Haplogroup was just updated to U8a1a. Would like to hear from others with this Haplogroup. Thanks.
