I'm curious to see what their reply will be. Keep us posted!

I have gained the impression over recent years that Elhaik is not to be taken seriously. Seems every discipline has at least one Elhaik.

They're taking their sweet time about it. Probably an indication of how little importance they place on Elhaik's views.

Here is the response by Mendez.et.al

Reply to ‘The ‘extremely ancient’ chromosome that isn’t’ by Elhaik et al

Here is Elhaik.et.al. reply to the reply

Reply to Mendez et al: the ‘extremely ancient’ chromosome that still isn’t

Here is the full arxiv reply, apparently the reply on Nature EJHG had to be "castrated" and "vasectomized" according to the author of the former.

The Mendez reply is behind a pay wall, but a suplementary note is available here.

The fact that the original Elhaik et al. paper was published represents a stunning failure of the peer review process.

The personal character of Elhaik could be described as meglomaniac. However, the original age estimate in Mendez appears to be significantly older than a more recent one (Karmin et al., 2015). The latest number by Karmin et al. is 254 kya, which is between the number suggested by Mendez and Elhaik.

By strictly applying this principle we obtained an unbiased estimate of the antiquity of lineages relevant to the genetic history of the human Y chromosome. In particular, the two deepest nodes of the tree highlight the survival, in Central-Western Africa, of lineages whose coalescence (291 ky, 95% C.I. 253343) predates the emergence of anatomically modern features in the fossil record.
This new estimate is somewhat closer to the original Mendez estimate of 338,000 years.
