We can't rule out that the IVC and central asian farmers might have had an as yet undiscovered mutation for lactose persistance.
Thats likely the case, because Water buffalo were the main source of dairy for IVC, as it is today and isolated groups like the Toda completely rely on it , including raw dairy.

Udegram is acheologically not what we percieve as Indo-Aryan - no weapons of any kind ("socially well organised and apparently very peaceful because no weapons were found from the site, unlike most civilisations"), and women as elites ("a female-centred pattern: women were buried in megalithic graves, thereby alluding to their leading role in the household"). Looks more like an extension of Rakhigarhi where graves also showed the similar characteristics.

Saidu Sharif has "completely different funerary practices had appeared that had nothing in common with the protohistoric traditions observed at Udegram." But by 300BC we knew that had to be case as we have independent Greek eyewitness evidence.

Another reason for the lack of physical evidence is likely the ferocious monsoon climate and the riverine flooding.
I had thought Swat looked very similar to Rakhigarhi based on Vidale et al. (2017, Udegram) and Shinde et al. (2018, Rakhigarhi), but apparently that was to be expected based on Kenoyer and Meadows work amongst others. Swat is archaeologically considered an Harappan Cemetery H period outpost. So it may seem like the tail wagging the dog, but if Swat is Indo-Aryan, so is Harrapa.

Another interesting thing is that one of the "Indus Periphery" samples from Shahr-i Sokhta is from 3200-3000 BC, the earliest level at Shahr-i Sokhta, and earlier than the mature Indus period, and roughly from the time of early IVC. So perhaps their genesis is shared.

Shahr I Sokhta looks typical Indus Valley to me judging by the BA3 sample and that South Indian shifted Saidu Sharif sample

Also the PJL samples that still exist in the IVC area are very similar to these ancient samples, they have hardly changed apart from getting some additional Steppe probably via the incoming Indo-Aryans. Swat would have had full demographic turnover though. The most unchanged of these descendants are probably non-Lohana Gujaratis and some South Indian farmer castes. Modi the Priest King

The only scenario that can account for the lack of R1a in Swat is that Cemetary H is a part of the IVC pop/culture zone and changed over to the Indo-Aryans in its late phase.

I see what you're saying, maybe the early Helmand culture was an extension of the IVC considering that preist king statuette and that possibly these people/samples were not immigrants but natives?

David Reich: This is why knowledgeable scientists must speak out. If we abstain from laying out a rational framework for discussing differences among populations, we risk losing the trust of the public and we actively contribute to the distrust of expertise that is now so prevalent. We leave a vacuum that gets filled by pseudoscience, an outcome that is far worse than anything we could achieve by talking openly.

Heres my component calculation based on K33s ancients nmonte, all fits are under 5 so reasonably accurate

Findings - Gujarati and Telugu Reddy (Kush) have the most ancestry from the Indus periphery (likely IVC peoples) and have the highest levels of Iran N among the samples

Zevankinskiy could be similar to Scythian geneflow

Parkhai looks BMAC related, look at Kalash and Sapporo, both L1a2 peoples

Sintastha seems to be the Indo-Aryan component (no surprises)

EDIT: the steppe here is Euro steppe, splitting the Siberian HG component out, in reality both are steppe and came combined in most cases. I've also added NE Asian to the Siberian component due to laziness

The Iran_N should be greater > 50% for both Kalash and Saporro ( after Baloch/Brahui it peaks in Kalash), and the AASI for Kalash is low, it should be 10-12%. Far Sap , he should be 13-16% AASI, from what I have seen in the past in his runs, as well it matches up with SS 2, who score 30% on SI Harappa, and who is 14% AASI, which is the range which Sapporo scores his SI range in. By this rate he should be 42- 45% SI on Harappa. Also the Brahmin scores should be way higher. For Kalash and Sapporo , SS 2 or Gonur 2 (preferably) are sufficient. Did you scale these ? Nice work , the issue with SAs they have all these interconnected groups they bleed into each other. Also Scythians are not needed as they soak up Zagrosian related ancestry as well as Steppe.

Note: nMonte has Paniyas as about ~20% Iran_N (Ganj-Dareh-Neolithic) and ~80% Onge-like/AASI so keep that in mind here. I only used them cos they improve the fits, to be honest.

All runs were done with Nmonte3 using the scaled Global25 datasheet and pen=0. Seems to me like they're almost all about 35-50% Iran-Neolithic, 25-35% AASI, 10-20% MLBA-Steppe and 5-10% West-Siberia.

If you use Bronze age S/SC Asian samples you will get better fits , The early Iron Age samples seem to have Iran_Chl interesting , which explains the E1b, these look to be of mixed BMAC ancestry.

We next examined cross-comparison and Test f4-statistics (Fig. S3.39). We first observe that
4536 on both cross-comparison f4-statistics, samples from the Iron Age are extremely similar to
4537 one another and do not show any significant differences between the sites. However, the
4538 individuals from Shahr-i-Sokhta and Gonur as well as samples from later periods in Saidu
4539 Sharif and Butkhara have higher proportions of Onge.D

So AASI for Iron Age < 14%

Alright, I'll try using the earlier Bronze SC Asian samples later and share the results.
