    I was going through the Dodecad K12b spreadsheet, and was struck by how the Uyghur are basically 50% Gedrosia/North European/Caucasian/South Asian/Southwest Asian/Atlantic_Med and 50% East Asian/Siberian/Southeast Asian. In other words, this population is a good example of simple two-way mixture. So I thought it would be fun to separate the "West Eurasian" (basically, the native Central Asian portion) half from the "East Eurasian" half (I suppose the Turkic portion). This was quite easy.

    After some fiddling, this is what I came up with. Obviously, this was a very simplistic exercise. Heck, one could probably say that exercises of this nature are fundamentally misguided. Regardless, this looks pretty good.

    Native Central Asian parental population:

    Gedrosia=35%
    North_European=27%
    Caucasian=23%
    South_Asian=10%
    Southwest_Asian=3%
    Atlantic_Med=2%

    East Eurasian parental population:

    East_Asian=64%
    Siberian=27%
    Southeast_Asian=9%

    The native Central Asian portion is closest to Tajiks, and is also close to the HGDP Pashtuns (I'm not looking at the GD, just the order in which populations are close). The Turkic portion is very Mongolian/northeast Asian-like.

    I think the native Central Asian portion is of considerable interest, since it is my understanding that the West Eurasian ancestry of the Uyghur is steppe Indo-European in origin. I know next to nothing about this topic, so I would appreciate any input concerning the history of the Tarim basin, and any corrections to my cookie cutter model.

    But if my assumptions concerning the Uyghur's West Eurasian ancestry aren't completely off the mark, my "Native Central Asian parental population" might be pointing in the right direction, as far as steppe Indo-European groups east of the Urals are concerned.

    Edit: In order to see if I'm doing things correctly, I excluded some populations from the oracle matrix, and ran the actual Uyghur results through the oracle. Here is what I get:

    "50.3% Mongol + 49.7% Tajiks_Y" "11.3299"

    "51.2% Hezhen + 48.8% Pathan" "12.5589"

    So, the West Eurasian ancestry of the Uyghur is best represented by the Yunusbayev Tajiks and HGDP Pashtuns. This is perfectly in line with the above experiment.

    I have a question. I was told by someone one time, who reviewed my GEDmatch Results, that I "averaged" out somewhere in Switzerland. They even named me the exact location where I genetically "average" out. I am half English and half Italian. By 1 Population Approximation, I'm usually "French". Where can I find this geographical location of my "middle ground"? Is it somewhere I am missing in GEDmatch?

    Thank you! I followed the instructions therein, and am ending up at France again, like I had noticed, at least on the Calculations I've tried so far. As the different Calculations are more or less variable, it makes sense I suppose that another one that someone else had used had landed up in Switzerland. Given where I land up as an average, I believe I must have significant Britonic Admixture in my English half, as if my English 50% was nearly purely Germanic, one would think I should average out a bit more east than I do, or I could be over interpreting. The Britonic would be mixed in my Autosomal ancestry, as my Y is Anglo-Saxon.

    Thank you for sharing this information, this makes much sense and the local Saka ancestors of Uyghurs were closely related to Pamiri people and early Pashtuns. Some Uyghurs still have a typical Tajik look and anthropological studies already mentioned that southern Saka resembled Pamiri Tajiks and modern Afghans to a large extent . I looked at the results of one Kazakh to estimate the admixture of pre-turkic northern Central Asians and his non east-asian ancestry looks roughly like this.

    Gedrosia=21%
    Atlantic=6%
    North European=42%

    South Finno-Ugrians resemble their non east-asian part most what makes sense for me because Proto-Indo-iranians lived next to Finno-Ugrians and certainly mixed with them. But Tajiks and east Slavs have also a high affinity to them. I am sure that my estimates are not absolutely accurate and I can not exclude recent gene flow from european Tatars or eastern Europeans but their non east asian part is similar to the non east-asian part of Uyghurs. It is just more northern and western shifted but this is not surprising because Kazakhs live much further west and north. Quite interesting that their non east asian part can be modelled as approximately half Pashtun/Kalash/Tajik and half eastern European (Finno-Ugrian, East Slavic). So this indicates that a population similar to them (Indo-iranians ?) contributed 40%-50% to the ancestry of modern southern Central Asians what sounds not unrealistic for me

    [10,] "30.4% Lithuanians + 69.6% Tajiks_Y" "9.3236"

    Similar results like before, Tajiks have again the highest affinity to them here. The native Central Asian non-east asian parental population of Kirgiz can be modelled as 60%-65 % Tajik/Pashtun and 35%-40% Ukrainian/Russian/Lithuanian. . So they are more northern shifted than pre-Uyghurs but more southern shifted than pre-Kazakhs what looks all very reasonable. The ancestors of Kirgiz orginated from Siberia and maybe picked some "northern" ancestry already there so that the iranian populations of pre-turkic Kyrgyzstan were in reality maybe more southern shifted.
    The early Kyrgyz people, known as Yenisei Kyrgyz, have their origins in the western parts of modern-day Mongolia and first appear in written records in the Chinese annals of the Sima Qian's Records of the Grand Historian (compiled 109 BC to 91 BC), as Gekun or Jiankun (鬲昆 or 隔昆). They were described in Tang Dynasty texts as having "red hair and green eyes", while those with dark hair and eyes were said to be descendants of a Chinese general Li Ling.[17] In Chinese sources, these Kyrgyz tribes were described as fair-skinned, green- or blue-eyed and red-haired people with a mixture of European and Mongol features.[18][19][20][21] The dominant type of the Yenisey "Kyrgyz" was Mongoloid. The Middle Age Chinese composition "Tanghuiyao" of the 8–10th century transcribed the name "Kyrgyz" as Tsze-gu (Kirgut), and their tamga was depicted as identical to the tamga of present day Kyrgyz tribes Azyk, Bugu, Cherik, Sary Bagysh and few others.[22]
    But let not forget that at least late northeastern Iranians of Siberia were rich in local siberian and east asian ancestry. The early Indo-Iranians, who entered Iran, Kurdistan, Afghanistan and India were certainly very low in any kind of east eurasian ancestry but late north Iranians mixed with east asian populations. But i wonder how Kazakhstan,northern Central Asia and other regions ,which were part of Andronovo, looked before Indo-Iranians entered them. Probably burusho/caucasian-like but with some kind of (para)-uralic and (para)-ket populations and elements. I also believe that there were genetically slightly different waves of Indo-Iranians entering Afghanistan, India and Persia and already in pre-turkic times there were many population movements in Central Asia so that archaic Indo-Iranians looked maybe slightly different.Andronovo Indo-Iranians were probably not identical to Scythians/late north Iranians who picked very likely more"european" and siberian dna in the contact zone between steppe and forest steppe/forest people.
