    Newbie here: I-S1954

Hi guys. Just joined this. Recently received my Chromo2 results from Britain's DNA. My YDNA group is I, with a subtype of I-S1954. My mTDNA group is T, with a subtype of T1a1. I am a red hair carrier, with the redhead variant Asp84Glu. Want to know what to do next.

You could check out the I1-Z140 project at FTDNA at https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Z140/. It looks like you're on the branch to L338. If you have your raw data, you could check to see if you're L338+ (a.k.a., S197). There's also an I1 mailing list you can subscribe to or browse at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.co...A-HAPLOGROUP-I

    Hi Les.

Im also I-S1954, which you'll gather is a select band on BDNA (0.5%!).

It would be interesting to compare the markers you're positive for. Feel free to DM me.

Im also impressed you're in the Shetlands. Is that a longstanding family location for you? My paternal family were mainly Welsh Marches for the last half dozen generations at least. I was expecting deep Welsh patrilineal ancestry - so being Germano-Scandinavian was a bit of a turn-up. Might explain my indifferent rugby skills, but maybe I could be entrusted with making the trains run on time...

    Regards

    David

Hi David, I am also I-S1954, which might come from my father's family's origins (at least from the 1800's) in Swansea. My mother's line is H5a1p, but part of her line came from the Gwent Hereford borders. As with you, my rugby skills were minimal, but I'm really not very good at timekeeping!!

I am one too. Maybe we should encourage all the other I-S1954 s to 'register' in this thread. Just to see how common we really are.

I'm S1954 too! When I got in touch with the Z140 project, a very helpful guy there told me that my S12289 that also showed on my Britain's DNA is actually downstream of S1954. Are any of you positive for S12289 as well? Good to be in touch by the way.

Has anyone turned up the surname Ernest in relation to our group ? I have been following local leads and this name has popped up ?
