Y5586 now available as individual SNP test from FTDNA

Y5586, a subclade of Y5587, can now be tested individually at FTDNA.

If the 15for15 coupon is still working, the test costs only $24.

Recently got my results, from Ftdna Z2103 pack:

    R1b-M269>L23>Z2103>Z2106>Z2109>CTS7822>CTS9219>Y18959> Y5587>Y5586

Most common in Bulgaria, some samples in Spain and Germany. I am of portuguese origins... by the distribution I think Legio IV Macedonica... Can anyone help me figure this out?

Hi Tqes, I am also Y5586. My test results from Yseq are...

    R1b-Z2103 Panel
    Z2106 A+
    CTS9219 A+
    BY250 A-
    Y5587 G+
    Y14079 A-
    Y5586 G+
    Y22225 C-

    Your final haplogroup is R1b-Y5586*
All known downstream branches have been confirmed negative

My family were supposedly from Italy (some say Spain), how long has your male line been in Portugal?

Hello Wcod, how are you? My male line is from Portugal for at least 120 years. Surnames are from north Portugal, near Galicia in Spain. What about you? Best regards!

Considering one of you is Scottish and the other Portuguese odds are the link is pre-historic (TMRCA is 4000 years), or perhaps from the medieval period as there seem to be a few NW Euro lineages in Portugal dating from around that period - possibly the consequence of foreign knights who fought against muslims in Iberia. I wouldn't totally discard the Atlantic Bronze or even the Roman periods, but who knows, rare haplogroups with few individuals are a big question mark (mine is the same, but the link is with SW Germany rather than Scotland, and nearly an additional couple thousand years)

Hi Tqes, thank you for replying!
My male line has been in Scotland since the 1790s but it appears that they originally came from Southern Switzerland.
Would you like to connect via email?
    Thank you very much
    William

I wasn't sure if I had to quote your response so I thought I should do that in case you didn't see my message.

It’ll be really interesting to find out. My male line was from Southern Switzerland/Northern Italy so I’m hoping that the match with Tqes is a little closer than 4000 years - fingers crossed.
It’s a shame yours is so far back, I thought mine was bad!
