we have had a lot of problems with black bears coming into the center of my city this year. We have enough green-ways scattered throughout the city that between the gullies, ravines, woodlots, conservation area's and parks, its not very difficult for them to get in.

I have a couple of friends that live near the edges of the city and its common for them to have bears there...one has to keep a steady watch when he is jogging in the AM as he has several times surprised a bear as he went around a corner and that is the one thing you don't want to do

I live in the center of the city and usually they do not get all that close to me, so having several spotted on either my street or streets just a few blocks away are unusual.

here are a few pics of a fellow that got scared and went up a tree several blocks from me...then the trick is to get him down, with out anyone getting hurt and transport him far away from here-fortunately, he was not a very big fellow, in fact, 'he' was probably a girl, although still full grown

those are power lines going across in the middle of the pic
    2015-06-22BearRemovalKerrStreetMNRKA01.jpg

you can see how high he climbed, which is a natural reaction for them...he must be 50" high as the peak of that roof is about 30'...you can see the bear is bigger than the man (Natural Resources guy) using a long stick to give him a sleep injection
    2015-06-22BearRemovalKerrStreetMNRKA02.jpg

take a close look at the bears ear on the left...I think that 'spot' at the base is a tag...if it is, it means he was caught and transported out of the city once before...given the rather dopey look on his face, I suspect this pic was taken as the drug started to take effect

We get black bears in my neighborhood from time to time, mostly in the spring when they raid bird feeders.

They've been showing up in my neck of the woods as well. Which is pretty damn unusual! Seem's they're migrating northwards from Tennessee. I stayed at a cabin in the smokey mountains a few years ago and that place was littered with them. The cabin next to ours had their trash can attacked by a female and her cubs
