    Y-DNA, R1b1a2, Shorthand, R-M269: negative BY611

Given my Y-DNA haplogroup Y-DNA, R1b1a2, Shorthand, R-M269, how should I interpret this negative BY611 result?
I was advised to test for Z2103.
What information would that test also provide me?
    Thank you for your help.

Are you also negative for both P312 and U106? Are you negative for L51? Who advised you to test for Z2103? Do you have any other SNP results? Did you test BY611 as consequence of a close STR haplotype match? If so, have you tested more than 37 markers? It's difficult to help without knowing your past test results to provide context for your query.

Z2103 is applicable to anyone who is positive for L23 but negative for L51.

BY611/A1777 is irrelevant unless you are also positive for Z2109. Z2109 is irrelevant unless you are also positive for Z2103.

If you are positive for Z2109, are you also positive for CTS9219?

The key to SNP testing strategy is to test only the ones that will eliminate or confirm major branch points first, and then transverse up or down the tree as required to narrow down the list of possibilities until only your ancestral paternal line remains.

If you have no close STR haplotype matches in the database to provide a reasonable prediction to shortcut to the most probable subclade candidate (and in most cases, 67 markers are required as a minimum for anyone under R-M269 to do so), you may be better off to take an "NGS" test such as FTDNA's Big Y, or one of Full Genomes Corp.'s tests, instead of testing single SNPs blindly.

    My Y-DNA haplogroup is R-M269
    I just received a negative BY611
In layman's terms, how should I interpret this negative test result?
I still waiting for my test results for DXS10011.
    Similarly, what would a + or - DXS10011 mean?
    Thanks!

See my previous posting. A BY611 negative result means that you do not descend below the branch defined by that SNP. You are somewhere on a branch ancestral to it, located somewhere else under R-M269.

DXS10011 is a hyper-variable STR located on the X-chromosome. You should get a numeric value report for it, not a positive or negative result. It means absolutely nothing as far as Y-DNA goes. Your X-chromosome was inherited from your mother, which in turn is a mix of both of her X-chromosomes, one inherited from each of her parents.

    Hi VinceT!
The value I received for DXS10011 was 37.
    What does that mean?
    Thanks!

Vince is an expert and it's wise to follow his advice. SNP BY611 was a good guess because of your DYS393=12 and DYS383=11-11 values that are indicative of the R1b-BY611 branch. Since you are BY611- it's got to be another branch. The R1b-M269 (P312- U106-) DNA Project has placed you in subgroup C5: Should test P312& U106 or, better, BigY (or Geno 2.0) - probably not eligible. With 37 markers and no close matches, testing for Y SNPs P312 and U106, one way or another, is your best next step.

Since he is Hispanic he has at least an 80% of being positive for P312.
