12 markers might not be enough to make a prediction. If your matches are mostly N-M232 then good chance you are. You can upgrade and test more markers and/or test that SNP.

    basmaci,
I just noticed you have your thread in the mtDNA section. I'm going to move it to the Y-DNA N forum.

You can check Urasins Y predictor.
    Do you have Yoruk ancestry?

I've seen some R1b1-L389 haplotypes that look like this, but it's probably not because of DYS439 = 10. As others have stated, you would probably need a SNP test to confirm the N result.
YDNA: R1b-BY50830 (1800's Stepney, London(Bethnal Green), UK George Wood b. 1782 English <-> Bavarian cluster
maternal-grandfather YDNA: prob. I1 Gurr, George 1843, Feversham, Kent, England.
maternal-grandmother YDNA: R1b-P311+ Beech, John Richard b. 1780, Lewes, England
    maternal-ggrandfather YDNA R1b-U106 Thomas, Edward b 1854, Sittingbourne, Kent
paternal-ggf YDNA: R1b-L48. Gould, John Somerset England 1800s.
paternal-ggf YDNA: R1b-L48. Scott, William Hamilton mdka Ireland(?) < 1800s

I was just thinking too, FTDNA's website can be buggy at times. You actually *might* be showing as N-M232 to your matches. I have seen both Y DNA and Family Finder matches disappear, and reappear from time to time. Not sure why? Might be FTDNA or maybe the matches privacy settings? I've also seen the SNP certificate that they let you print change from the basic haplogroup Q description for my brother (I guess the powers that be there don't know what to make of us Q1b to give us more detail). Anyway I've seen it change to the description for Q1a2 about a month ago! It's back to the generic description now. They are supposed to be updating their haplotree little by little so maybe that comes into play with how SNPs appear on their website.

You also might want to consider testing at YSEQ for SNPs. Only $17.50! http://www.yseq.net/ Much better than current FTDNA prices.

12 Y-STR's will almost certainly produce spurious results. Upon receiving my first 12 and running them through online predictors, I'd regularly receive Y-DNA Q or R1a1a instead of R2a.

I cosign Táltos' recommendations; upgrading to either 25 STR's or partaking in specific SNP testing would be appropriate. I'd opt for the former and then running through Urasin's Y-Predictor if you have absolutely no prior knowledge regarding what your Y-DNA haplogroup may be. The latter is only useful if you've tested with other companies and received some form of Y-SNP assessment (e.g. "Y-DNA N" from 23andMe).

Do keep us posted on how things progress. The ubiquitous nature of the Y-DNA N results, however, does look quite promising at first glance.
