Here's one of my favorite Tatar folk songs--I like the simplicity of it, and the setting and traditional clothes. I've been trying to translate it, if you can help me, or correct me, that would be great.

From what I can understand, the story is about her father marrying her off (or her sister?) to someone, and receiving a large dowry, despite that he is well-off, and she is upset at him. She cries with her sister (because they will be separated); and she reminds her father that she was a good daughter (?).

My avatar is the Turkic-Bulgar symbol of the Mamluk sultan, Baybars, whose name means "chief leopard." He transplanted the steppe-style comitatus and postal system to the sultanate, and installed his secret couriers to operate it. (My surname is a relic of these Kipchak-Cuman couriers.) This leopard symbol is often found on structures he commissioned throughout Palestine. A similar one is used as the emblem of the Kazan Tatars, and is portrayed as a snow leopard, Aq-Bars.

I've liked this one for a year or so now... Searched high and low for more from the group that recorded it in vain.

    Good topic!

I always was interested in all kinds of Turkic music since I was ten or so. On my old PC I had a collection of different songs from all over Asia.
And believe it or not, I think there are overlapping harmonies between all these different songs from different countries.
One song/artist I can recall is Alisher Allambergenov, he has a lot of good songs. One of my favorites was:

I will refresh my posts after I found my collection
