Fascinating. The reason why the pileus has not survived in Greece is due to Byzantine Christian decrees that banned citizens from wearing the "pagan hat and tunic" (in the 4 century AD if I am correct). I guess it was quite hard to impose such rules in the mountains of what is now Albania (thankfully).

In Kerala (where my parents are from) and South India in general, the traditional dress worn by men is lungi. Lungi almost looks like a thin fabric of towel wrapped around your lower waist. The women wear a saree.

These types of Swahili hats are called ''Kofia za vito'' which are originally made in Lamu and are 100% hand-stitched. The hats are available in different types which are distinguishable by different patterns. The sewing of the hats is a tradition that has been passed down from father to son.

These are Lesos (also called Kangas) which are basically thin, colourful, decorated scarves worn by women from Kenya & Tanzania. Swahili sayings and poetry are always printed on the scarves. Lesos originated on the Swahili coast some people say that its origins are in Zanzibar and some say Mombasa it's debatable I guess...

Man I would love to visit Lamu again. Last time I was there I was 14. Lots of fun and great fishing around there. Also the m place where I first caught a fish with a spear
