R1b is confused with Q in Turkmen genetic. Is it True?

I read an essay in Wikipedia that have been indicated R1b is confused with Q chromosome in Turkmen diversity genetic. Is it True? And if it's true , what have these two chromosomes in common that made this mistake?

Sorry if I make a mistake and about my english. I'm freshman here.

Hi there, your English is fine.

Q and R1b both belong to the P-M45 group. In some old studies they did not yet know about the mutations for Q and R1b, but they knew the ones for P and R1a, so they had many samples of P(xR1a), which could be Q or R1b or R2. In one of the big studies of Central Asia about half of Turkmen belonged to this P(xR1a). Wikipedia also talks about spurious R1b-M73 being identified somewhere but the reference is not helpful.

There have been later studies which did test for these SNPs. Turkmen in Golestan, Iran have both R1b and Q; so do Turkmen in northern Afghanistan. On the other hand a sample of 50 Turkmen from Karakalpakia in Uzbekistan had no R1b or Q (they were almost all R1a).

In fact Turkmen in different areas have R1b1a2a-L23*, R1b1a1-M73, Q1a1b-M25, and Q1a2-M346.
