R1a - Z283 question from newbee

I got quite a surprise when I tested Y67 to find out that I was possibly descended from clan MacDonald - my surname is Gillespie and I am from Northern Ireland. I am R1a Z-283. I was advised to test CLD12 from YSEQ and this came back positive. I believe this narrows me down to Glengarry or Clanranald.

My question is: what can I do with this information? Would I get any advice from this forum? As I said, I am a newbee - all the 'jargon' I have quoted means absolutely nothing to me - I have been getting a lot of help from the folk at the Gillespie Surname project - even though it seems I'm not a Gillespie!

That result should bring you down a couple branches from R-Z283: Z283>Y2395>Z284>S4458>S5301>S5153>L448>CTS4179>(CL FY1?)>YP276>L176.1>YP280>YP330>YP327>YP326-A>CLD12, or just R-CLD12.

You may be familiar with the Clan Donald DNA project, this page outlines the clan tree and shows a couple other branches below CLD12. I recommend that you join the Clan Donald and R1a projects, then be sure to get in touch with J. D. McDonald for further advice on whether additional single SNPs, SNP panel, or BigY testing makes sense based on your current results.
