    Smile Pan-Celtic Subforum

I noticed the poll asking about the preference for a Pan-Slavic subforum, so I thought it might be a good idea to suggest such a forum for the Celtic regions of Bretagne (Brittany), Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Or you could have separate subforums for each of them.

Anyway, it won't kill me if you don't do it, but it would be nice.

What about Gauls, Iberian Celts, and what not? If you're talking about Celts before the Roman empire they should be included. If not shouldn't it just be be called Pan-Insular Celtic subforum or something?

I was thinking in terms of regions and nations that are regularly and ordinarily identified as Celtic and/or preserve a Celtic language. Otherwise, it seems to me, one opens a huge can of worms, which would encompass a lot of territory, since many nations have a claim on at least a partial Celtic heritage.

Thank you for the suggestion rms2. I personally like the idea.

probably the rule should be that you have geneaological time certain or strongly suspected ancestors who lived in a country where records show a Celtic language was being spoken when an ancestor lived there.

I'd say people who are from the countries, or are like 100% from those countries.

I thought the idea of the Pan-Slavic forum was for people to post in a Slavic language. I suppose we have some people here who speak Welsh, Breton or Gaelic, but Celtic-speakers today are bilingual in French or English with very few exceptions. Naturally I'm all in favour of promoting the surviving Celtic languages (though I don't speak one myself). But I wonder if that was what you had in mind?

What is sure, on this forum, if the Celtic-speakers are not bilingual, impossible for them to understand what is written

Honestly, that was not what I had in mind, since I cannot read or speak any of the Celtic languages, apart from a mere smattering. I was thinking more of subforums limited by nation or geographic region but not by genetic subcategory. In other words, in the Wales subforum, the discussion would be about Welsh genetics and all that goes with it, whether that involves y-dna, mtDNA, or autosomal dna, or all three.
