    Any Suggestions?

I'm a little disappointed today. We got my wife's full mtdna results back from FTDNA and all they told us was that she is an A2. Well, I already knew that from the cheap test my brother-in-law took early this year. I was hoping to get subclades and the whole Mary Lou. I ran the numbers through the mtdna community link on the results page and got the result of A2r. Can anyone suggest where I might get some clarification on origins? Anybody know anything about A2r?

There are only 6 FMS results in GenBank for A2r so the tree is not very well resolved here. You could compare her results to the other 6 and see if she has any close matches. You might also want to submit the results to GenBank.

There doesn't seem to be much specific geographic info available on these 6, a few are from studies of Mexican Americans. In mtDNA Community there is one test results without a GenBank ID that give Tamaulipas as the origin. I don't know anything specific on this subclade...it could be widespread the Americas.

Thanks, Gail. I submitted my wife's numbers to mtdna community. Her earliest know female ancestor lived in Tamaulipas so you probably saw my wife's sample. There isn't much on the web about haplogroup A2r. I found it on this tree:

    http://www.phylotree.org/tree/subtree_N.htm

Am I reading it right where that 6935 is the defining area of this haplogroup?
