    BigY quality

Does somebody have an idea what the average file size is, because I seem to have a lot of gaps.
Also if someone can provide some technical info about the methods used I would be thankful

I am J1-Z1853+ and L862-, two other Z1853* took Big Y test and one got good results, 65 SNPs, but the other one got a very bad one, only 39 SNPs. Looking at the discrepancy in two results, I easily figured out that the Big Y was like a lottery and is not worth the gamble, and chose to buy WGS from Full Genomes.

I suspect its the outcome of poor methods that are used

The length coverage of big Y I have seen: the good one is about 58%, the bad one is about 48%, the average is 54%.

YFull is an expert evaluator of such matters. In one previous case (also in haplogroup Q), YFull's expert persuaded FTDNA to re-run the Big Y. That case was drastically deficient, though.

How can I tell how much coverage my BigY has? Only after evaluation will I know?

I did not know there were large variations in Big Y BAM files. I was going to mention that FTDNA does not really "certify" all the positions that can be found in the BAM file, but uses a BED file to select "golden regions" for those SNPs the they report. I some case, at least with one IDEL, they did not report it though it was ranked as okay in the VCF file.

Regarding snps, according to Yfull statistics I got 18% no calls, which is a lot.
I dont know how that compares to other companies though

I'm actually really interested in this test now. I got a rare result for my ethnic group, and I'm keen to find out more.
