    X match question?

I have three X matches so far and all three of my matches are fully European ( I have seen their ancestry composition). I still do not fully understand what the X chromosome is and from whom we inherit it? These three matches of mine do not match with my maternal aunt and granfather. So this mean they are matches from my paternal side??

The X is passed on except by fathers to sons, so any pathway that does not have two consecutive males is possible. (E.g. I have matches from my mother's father's mother's mother's side, as well as my mother's mother's mother's side.)

If you are male, it should be from your maternal side but not all maternal side. AJL is right. There is an online image with the pattern of X chromosome. http://www.thegeneticgenealogist.com.../NewChart5.jpg

So, if you're woman the X matches are also relevant, because you could exclude all people from your paternal grandfather, for example.
