    Q-L245 SNP Pack from FTDNA

Today FTDNA updated their Haplotree below Q-L245! It was announced on the Q Project's activity page that the SNP pack for Q-L245 should be available soon.

According to Alessandro Biondo, an Administrator of the Haplogroup Q Project:
Q-L245 SNP Pack would test 177 SNPs, including both SNPs on the last haplotree and SNPs that are not on the haplotree. The initial price (one week or so) will be $99 and the standard price would be $119
SNP packs for other branches of Q should be available in upcoming months according to the post.

Thank you everyone who was involved to make this happen.

All news about the Q-L245 SNP Pack

FamilyTreeDNA has released the Q-L245 SNP Pack, a new product that is designed to test a comprehensive list of SNPs for this branch of the Q Haplogroup. The purpose of this test is to help you to find out where your paternal line belongs to in the Q tree.

Additionally, FTDNA has released an update to the Q tree, showing the positions of those SNPs on the newly discovered branches. Now, when you look at the haplotree page, under Q-L245, where before there was nothing, you will see different branches and many even reach forward into the genealogical time frame. This test will allow you to discover to which of these branches your paternal line belong.

We would like to suggest ordering this test to every project member who belong to one of the subgroups with a name starting with “L275 > M378> L245 ...”: if you are not sure, verify your subgroup in the Y-DNA Results page from the Y-DNA Haplogroup Q Project public website, or ask the Project Administrators if you qualify for this test.

The Q-L245 SNP Pack is now offered at the introductory price of $99, instead of the standard price of $119.

To know what are the SNPs that are tested and to order the new test, go to Upgrade -> Advanced Tests -> Test Type = SNP Pack and select the “Q-L245 SNP Pack”.
How to order the test if you do not have an account on FTDNA:

    1. To create your FamilyTreeDNA account, go to https://www.familytreedna.com/AutosomalTransfer, fill the form with your First Name, Last Name, Email Address, check the box Male and the box “terms of service” and click “Try it Free”.
    2. You will receive an email with your account details: Kit Number and Password and the link to FamilyTreeDNA homepage.
    3. Log in your new account and click on the blue button “Upgrade” on the upper right corner of your personal page. A new page with all the available test will be open.
    4. Look for “Advanced Tests” at the bottom of the new page and click on “Buy Now”.
    5. In the new page, under the Test Type menu, select “SNP Pack” and then click add to the Q-L245 SNP Pack.
    6. Now the test is added to your cart and you can go ahead by clicking on the “order now” button.
    7. A warning showing that your kit does not meet the prerequisites for Q-L245 SNP Pack will appear: this is because you have no previous test at FTDNA. Ignore it: order the Q-L245 SNP Pack and proceed to checkout.
    8. At checkout, fill the form as required.
    9. The full cost will be $108,95 ($99 for the test and $9.95 for the kit and shipping).
    10. You will receive the the kit for collecting your DNA sample at the address you have provided.
    11. Collect your sample following the instructions and send it back to FTDNA.
How to join the Q Y-DNA Project at FTDNA

You may join by logging into your personal myFTDNA page:

Thanks Шад , Now I am trying to convince other Arab members who belong to Q-L245, to do at least these tests

I read a post in the Facebook group for Q that approximately 50 orders for this test came in yesterday! I hope there is some Arab Q-L245 that are among them.

    AM.SAUDI ARABIA,
Here is an update on the Q-L245 pack if you haven't seen it. In the table 54 men ordered it. I like the breakdown of the SNP positions and the values that are listed in the second table. http://www.haplogroup.org/blog/2015/...pack-update-1/

Unfortunately, I don't see anyone listed as Arab under the ethnicity in the table of who ordered during this first round.

    AM.SAUDI ARABIA,
You're welcome. Yes I hope they do it as well. Much can still be discovered and at a reasonable price. Here's a hidden gem. Check out the last two posts. https://www.23andme.com/you/communit...201/last_page/

Though I have a pretty good idea about how all this works, I still wasn't sure if all of those SNPs just meant the same level as Q-YP1003. Apparently they can be a gateway into finding a new branch. A few months ago I found someone who shares our surname, and ordered a 12 marker test for him. In October his result came back as a perfect match to my brother. So I ordered this test for him. Fingers crossed that he really turns out to be Q-YP1003, but also wondering if he will have any of these additional new BZ SNPs.

Being on a tight budget right now, I am considering skipping the expensive Big Y for the Q-L245 SNP Pack especially if I got a good discount on DNA Day. But, I wonder how much overlap if any exists between the two tests.

    Update :

Nevermind, I found my kit does not meet the prerequisites for this pack. I guess I must take the Big Y first to determine if I need this pack too.
