Hi everyone, I just found out my Maternal Great-Great-Great Grandfather-Side, which were of the Surname "Sarni" in Campania, Italy, is of the Y-DNA Group R1b1b2a-L49. Does anyone know anything about the origins, history, demography, etc of this Group? Can't find much info.

How was your Maternal Great-Great-Great Grandfather Sarni tested? L49 is on the same phylogenetic level as L23 or R1b-L23. http://www.isogg.org/tree/ISOGG_HapgrpR.html and estimated to be well over 6000 years old. http://yfull.com/tree/R-L23/

Found through DNA Matches with background from the same Campania Town, and of the Sarni Surname, I match between 9cm and 7cm DNA with various cousins of that family, and they Y DNA Tested

Could be one of many branches under R1b-L23 and likely one of the R1b-Z2103 subclades. It would be best if they were a member of the R1b-M269 (P312- U106-) DNA Project so we can sort it out. https://www.familytreedna.com/groups...out/background

Oh I understand and thanks! If they are z2103 what is the story behind this? The farthest back we know is the Sarni Line traced in the Middle Ages to the Sarno River Valley of Salerno, Campania. My line has been in the Avellino Province for centuries

Is z2103 downstream of l51? I do know he is l51 negative

Z2103 is downstream of L23 and parallel to L51.

I've also checked L52, and it is negative, so Negative at both z2103 and L52, so nit seems that it isn't the Balkanic branch
