    Y haplogroup C2*

    Hi,

I've tested my DNA at 23andme and my paternal haplogroup is C2* (a subgroup of C2).
But what is C2* exactly? Is it C-M38?
I'm originaly from the Moluccan Islands, (eastern part of Indonesia).

C2 is indeed C-M38, according to 23andMe's Ancestry Tools > Haplogroup Tree Mutation Mapper. YFull doesn't have a single example of C-M38. You clearly need to order a full-Y test.

    Thanks for your respons Igmayka!
It was a bit confusing for me, all those subgroups etc, C2-C2*-CM38-CM38*-CM208 etc
    My Ancestry Composition:

    23andme:
    65.9% Southeast Asian
    30.5% Oceanian

    DNA.LAND:
    55.25% Southeast Asian
    42.97% Native Oceanian

    GEDMATCH MDLP K13 ULTIMATE
    53.53% East Asian
    41.18% Oceanian

Just trying to figure out the connection between my Y-dna and my Ancestry Compostions )

FTDNA gave me Y-dna haplogroup "C-M216".

"C-M216", an SNP that is now regarded as synonymous with C-M130 – xM8, M38, M217, M210, M356) have been found in 3.9% (3/77) of a sample of the general population of Kathmandu, Nepal.[19] Other examples of C-M216 have been reported among Mongol and Turkic peoples, including the: Jalairs, Tatars, Kazakhs, Crimean Tatars, Merkits, Jochids and Uzbeks

Are you Filipino? There is a fair bit of C* from the Philippines - possibly it's C1b1a2 or C1b1b, which is quite common in Indonesia. Indian C is typically C5 (C1b1a1). C is very ancient and diverse in Island Southeast Asia, so it's unlikely to be Indian, unless you mean like 50 000 years ago, or you have Indian ancestry yourself.

FTDNA gave me Y-dna haplogroup "C-M216". 23andme just gave me "C".

Yes I'm Filipino..I get 7.31% S_Indian on the puntDNAL K15 calculator. I know that pretty much all Filipinos get a fair amount of S_Indian on Gedmatch which I believe is an ancient admixture component since ISEA was heavily influenced by India in ancient times both culturally and genetically, plus Philippine negritos do carry a Dravidian genetic admixture component.

    My puntDNAL K15 breakdown:
    Admix Results (sorted):

    # Population Percent
    1 E_Asian 81.58
    2 S_Indian 7.31
    3 Oceanian 3.87
    4 Caucasian 1.57
    5 NE_European 1.48

I found this on Wikipedia concerning C-M216:
"C-M216", an SNP that is now regarded as synonymous with C-M130 – xM8, M38, M217, M210, M356) have been found in 3.9% (3/77) of a sample of the general population of Kathmandu, Nepal.[19] Other examples of C-M216 have been reported among Mongol and Turkic peoples, including the: Jalairs, Tatars, Kazakhs, Crimean Tatars, Merkits, Jochids and Uzbeks
Would I need to test for additional SNPs on FTDNA to find out more about my exact Y-dna haplogroup? I was thinking about doing the NatGeo test just for the haplogroup information alone.

    Hi all,

My paternal haplogroup is C1b2a-M38 (the former C2 only found in East-Indonesia, Melanesia and Polynesia). I notice that wegene is using the updated isogg haplotree.
But I'm still "stuck" at C1b2a and no further sublcades.

    How is that possible?

Have you taken the Big Y test? YFull's C-M38 haplotree has only 3 academic samples from Papua New Guinea--no Big Y customers at all.

Not yet, I'm hoping to do a Big Y in the near future
