Z251 Project at YSEQ, FTDNA

I've recently been added as a co-admin of the Z251 project at FTDNA and I've been getting all of the member's kits sorted into the right subgroups; I think it's looking pretty good right now. If you are a member of the group and believe that your kit is in the wrong subgroup in DNA Results, please send me an email or a PM so I can correct it.

It's been a little difficult to place members who have test results from YSEQ (many of us do since FTDNA didn't offer Z251 or subclade tests until very recently). To make this a little easier, I've created a Z251 Group at YSEQ. If you are positive for Z251 or a subclade SNP and have results at YSEQ, please join the R1b-Z251 Group (Group ID 162). Please also email me your YSEQ and/or FTDNA ID numbers so I can link your results in my notes.

If you are Z251+, please also join the L21 project and P312 project at FTDNA. Doing so will help members of those projects discover if they might be Z251+ by having similar STR results, perhaps encouraging them to pursue SNP testing.

Do you have results available from FGC also or do you need access?

I don't have access to FGC info; I've been relying on Alex's ytree for that information. I realize this means we're missing the info for Z251 men who have chosen to keep their results private.

Thanks, Cairn. I just joined the Z251 group at YSEQ. My YSEQ panel was the best investment thus far in y dna testing.

Thanks Don! I agree, my YSEQ panel was relatively inexpensive and the results came in extremely quickly. I've since ordered YSEQ panels for other relatives, and it always works out well. Though I understand the reasons why, I wish we could recommend YSEQ to Family Tree DNA group members. It's not as big an issue now, but before FTDNA's SNP Packs came out, it was very difficult for people in Z251 to find their downstream subclade because FTDNA didn't have the SNPs available to order.

I can't edit my original post in this thread, so I wanted to add here that any member of the Z251 project who is positive for the downstream FGC13899 SNP should also join the R-FGC13899 Project at Family Tree DNA.
