    X2e1a

My father's mtDNA results came in and on ftDNA it says he's X2 (he tested for FMS but I'm guessing the full analysis has not been posted properly yet) and on James Lick's mtdna analysis he's X2e1a.

    According to Eupedia:

X2e: found in Europe and the Near East
X2e1: found in Poland and Armenia

It doesn't say anything about the -a subgroup and perhaps that's because X appears to be a rare hg.

Do you have any information, or does anyone belong to this X subgroup? My father's mother's family are from Bulgaria, from the area of Lovech. I have only one match so far and she has a Bulgarian first name with a Russian last name.

    Jack, hi

Yes, he has. But the results are not in yet. I'll post them once they are. To be honest, I was expecting his aDNA results sooner than the rest.

By the way, apparently Phylotree build 17 is on the way in about a week and the subclades may change after that.

this is what I have at the moment:

    Defining Markers for haplogroup X2e1a:
    HVR2: 73G 153G 195C 225A 263G
    CR: 750G 1438G 1719A 2706G 4769G 6221C 6371T 7028T 8860G 9380A 11719A 12705T 13966G 14470C 14766T 15310C 15326G
    HVR1: 16189A 16223T 16278T

Marker path from rCRS to haplogroup X2e1a (plus extra markers):
    H2a2a1(rCRS) ⇨ 263G ⇨ H2a2a ⇨ 8860G 15326G ⇨ H2a2 ⇨ 750G ⇨ H2a ⇨ 4769G ⇨ H2 ⇨ 1438G ⇨ H ⇨ 2706G 7028T ⇨ HV ⇨ 14766T ⇨ R0 ⇨ 73G 11719A ⇨ R ⇨ 12705T 16223T ⇨ N ⇨ 6221C 6371T 13966G 14470C 16189C 16278T ⇨ X ⇨ 153G ⇨ X1'2'3 ⇨ 195C 1719A ⇨ X2 ⇨ 225A ⇨ X2(G225A) ⇨ 15310C ⇨ X2e ⇨ 16189A ⇨ X2e1 ⇨ 9380A ⇨ X2e1a ⇨ 225R (309.1C) (315.1C) 5604A 15476T (16519C)

Thank you! I just checked and they're also on the FTDNA X project. My father seems to have either extra mutations or they do, so they didn't show up as matches. The only match I have so far is in none of these projects, unfortunately. But there seems to be some consistency to the geographical area ie. Poland - Bulgaria? This is also the family line which I suspect I have my Ashkenazim matches from and that should get a bit clearer when the aDNA results are posted. I remember reading that Ashkenazim mtDNA lineages were local ones whereas yDNA were from the Middle East (meaning Jewish males married local women I assume.)

But yeah, so far, his mutations are closest to Poland group. I wonder if subclades will change dramatically after the new phylo build.

this is from a moroccan jew from 23andme. It's not the same mt-dna as your dad's but it says X is the most widespread haplogroup, wrapping almost all around the globe.
