Ancestry DNA vs GEDMATCH, Scottish vs English

    Hello,

Thank you for the add to the group...

    I have my AncestryDNA results:

    REGIONAPPROXIMATE AMOUNT
    Europe 100%
    Great Britain 53%
    Ireland 39%
    Europe West 7%
    Trace Regions

I then did the GEDMATCH. My family tree is - Mother's side is English/Irish and my Father's side is Scottish/Irish, so maybe I am reading or doing something incorrect since I don't see any Scottish?

While the admix tools at gedmatch are insightful, they are merely tools. The results are based upon the aggregate samples that each admixture tool has chosen. These population samples are not exhaustive; they are selective. So, the results are going to generalized for most. What I am saying is that these results are not exact for just about everybody, but rather a rough estination of ancestry. Looking at the sample populations used by each test would help you to understand where each test starts. Besides, on your list I see Orcadian and West_Scottish.
