    Sephardic Jews in Eastern Europe

Here are some interesting links to Kevin Alan Brooks research on Sephardic Jews in Eastern Europe.

I have to say I have been very interested in this topic for quite some time. I have autosomal matches to Jews from Morocco and Mexico, besides the ones in Eastern Europe. My brother has some Y DNA matches in Spain/Portugal. I have to admit for the past year I have been wondering if Y DNA Q1b1a that is associated with Ashkenazi Jews could hail from the Sephardi migrating into Eastern Europe. http://www.anthrogenica.com/showthre...ugal-and-Spain

Thanks yes I have seen him. Though I don't think that he has been tested for SNPs such as Q-L245, and so on. Way back in time this member of the Xiongnu Aristocracy shares a common ancestor in Q-L275 with the Jewish Q1b. I should have been more specific. Members of the Jewish Q1b1a or Q-L245, with all the adavanced testing the Jewish Q1b men belong to a specific subclade of Q-Y2200. The advanced testing shows that this branch breaks up into even more subclades. https://www.yfull.com/tree/Q-Y2200/

Hopefully in the next few days an article and new visual chart will be coming out. (Showing these branches). Not from me either.

I found my brother's distant Q1b matches to men from Spain and Portugal very interesting. They didn't fit the typical Ashkenazi Q1b, yet they have plenty of matches to them. I have been hoping that the advanced testing can help us understand how Q1b1a (Q-L245), but specifically when Q-Y2200 entered the Jewish population. I was only pondering if they might have ended up in the Ashkenazi through the Sephardi. I realize that this may not be the case. But it is interesting trying to find a pattern.

Perhaps some will find Mr. Brooks articles on the Sephardic Jews in Eastern Europe helpful. I know there has been a lot of interest in them. There was supposed to be a new update to FTDNA myOrigins by March 2016. It was rumored there would be Sephardic samples in the new update. Of course the date has come to pass, and no update. Though I'm not surprised there.
