They have mummies of 151 Egyptian mummies, they even show the pca in the news. I guess there are dozens of other studies of other regions which are finished, but the public is not being informed about any of it.

That seems to be the Abusir el-Meleq study from 2017.

I know that a bunch were just released but I am itching to see a new West Eurasian ancient DNA paper!

    I would hope so too.

However, the racist Neanderthals of every stripe would still ignore or twist the facts.

Maybe I'm losing interest in all this stuff, because I look at the threads here at Anthrogenica lately and find it more and more difficult to work up any enthusiasm for them.

I'm speaking for myself only, obviously. I'm not criticizing anyone else for liking what he or she likes.

Perhaps I'll feel differently when a new paper appears that deals with something I'm interested in.

Same here. Although I always read way more than I comment - I haven't commented in ages, ever since the buzz around that Roman paper died off. There has been interesting stuff since, like the Gaul samples despite their low coverage and the recent Near Eastern papers - but somehow I either lack the enthusiasm or the knowledge to actually engage in the discussion. Mostly the latter though, to be honest.

The Roman paper is as interesting now as it ever was. The real problem is we don't know how to correctly interpret the findings given the lack of samples from Iron Age Greece and Southern Italy. Once we have those critical areas sampled, everything will come together quite nicely and we'll finally understand the true origin of post-Neolithic Near Eastern gene flow in Southern Europe. We also need Roman era Northern Italian samples.

Hopefully within 6 months we will have a bunch of new ancient DNA samples from Greece.

Wasn't there a paper coming up, similar to the Roman one, but with samples from the rest of Italy?
