Quite different from the Z36 distribution. Does anybody have any thoughts for this difference from a historic/archaelogical stand point?

My initial impression is that Z56 arrived before Z36...and that Z56 may be more "Italo" while Z36 is more "Celtic"...but I may be totally off base...just my initial thoughts
    Y DNA line continued: Z142>Z12222>FGC12378>FGC12401>FGC12384

IMO Z56 is associated with the Proto-Italic invasion which occurred 3200 years ago. Z36 instead came much later, with the Gaulish invasion of Northern Italy 2400 years ago.

Interesting is that southern Calabria and central Sicily has little Italic R1b there, despite these being lands inhabited by the Siculi, an Italic tribe. I suppose they were mostly Italicized and not mostly Italic by blood.

Great map, it looks like our indigenous subclade and more specifically peaks in the Etruscan area mostly.

You mean North East Sicily (Messina and the Catania coast) more likely, while inner Sicily is on pair with the rest of South Italy and Central-Western and Southern Sicily has the higher percentage of this subclade in the South Italy together with Crotone/Catanzaro in Calabria.

I meant Messina/Catania and southern Calabria.

Some Z56 can also be found in Sardinia (ITA [IT-CA] = samples from Cagliari):

I think the same thing... also, we can think about an Etruscan Úlite imposing itself on IE Italics.
