My query is really being spurred by this delightful article comparing Michael Phelps' recent achievements to that of an ancient Greek Olympian known as Leonidas.

It is incredible that there is a record of what said ancient Greek participated in, how many medals he had, etc. The minutia available from ancient Greece is commendable. As far as my knowledge goes, ancient and medieval India are mainly chronicled by foreign travelers like Megasthenes, Hiuen Tsang, ibn Batuta, Marco Polo, etc. One major Indian made chronicle is the Rajatarangini, I don't have any others off the top of my head.

Would our knowledgeable Indian members and other folks dabbling in Indology provide some material that I am unaware of that perhaps might exist to the level of minutia as available from ancient Greece?
