I saw the first episode this weekend, I quite like how they made it from a Germanic pov instead of the usual Roman one.

It's refreshing to see the Romans as an oppressive and intrusive foreign element that's basically bullying locals into submission, instead of the stereotypical, and boring, view of a glorious victorious force that champions over other armies. We all know they lost at Teutoburg, but it's their encroachment into local tribes/villages and the build up to the revolt that I find the most interesting

Interesting, I'm used to seeing the Romans as the typical imperial "bad guys" who beat up the noble Celts. In Europe are they seen as "good?"
    Sorry for the English.

I'd say we often read or hear about the big armies, their wins and how they "civilised" the natives. This seems a lot more like day-to-day oppression that at least I haven't seen very often in shows or documentaries, I think they did a good job there.

On the issue of being the "bad guys" there's this jewel you're probably familiar with

Lol. Love that movie! Not sure how many of those things the Romans actually "introduced" to Judea (wine, for instance, certainly wasn't one of them), but point taken.

The "Life of Bryan" is an absolute masterpiece, in my sense the "alpha and omega" of humour. "Always look on the bright side of life" ... genius.
