Czech Surname - meaning?
Hello dear Community!
I really need some advice, maybe there are some czech people, or people who are well versed in czech genealogy.
The name I am looking for is Mejstrik. I have been looking for its meaning for several hours/days now, but I could not find it. There are some theories, but as I can't speak czech and I am not familiar with czech culture, it is quite hard for me to get the right answer.
1. Theory - This name was, before its changing the german word Meister, which means Master. It was used for craftsman or for jewish Rabbis, who were "religious masters".
Maybe the word Meister came to Bohemia, became Meist(e)rich and after all it became Mejstrik.
2. Theory - The name origins in the german Surname Meier - which is quite common in german and austrian regions. Its meaning comes from the latin word maius, which means taller, stronger or important. Although I don't really see a phonetical connection between these two names, an user from a genealogy-forum told me this.
3. Theory - The names roots come from Meistrich, which is a surname by itself (or another variant of Meisterich?). I don't know the meaning of this surname.
I found some different variants of this name like, Maystrik, Mystrik, Meistrick, Mejstřík, Mestric, Majstrich - they all have a connection, although I don't know the ancestral of its branches.
I would be very grateful if somebody can help me with this name.
Thank you a lot!
