    R-Z329 Origin???

I just received my Y Haplogroup of R-Z329 and have no clue of its origins. I have spent hours online and had no luck. Any help would be much appreciated...

There seems to be someone from the US with it, unless this is your result?

It's not even in y-full... interesting. Should be somewhere in this part of the tree?

Z329 (also known as S380 or V1439) is one of the mutations equivalent to Z330, so it defines a subclade deep under R1b-U106.
Its by far largest subclade is Z326, so it would be good to know whether sruchti is indeed negative for it (as suggested by his reported R-Z329 status). Here are some google maps showing the geographical distribution of the FTDNA customers classified as R1b-Z326:

    https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/vi...5hN66MvUpc&z=4

Sruchti, I would strongly recommend joining the R U106 (R1b-U106) project at FTDNA, and then the Yahoo forum (R1b1c_U106-S21_Haplogroup) associated with this project. Unfortunately, the R1b-U106 experts rarely participate in any discussions on this forum, as they prefer the non-public Yahoo forum instead.

Both R1b-Z329 and R1b-Z326 seem to be strongly associated with deep Germanic ancestry, so I guess your distant purely paternal ancestors were likely members of the hypothetical Proto-Germanic population (or at least its close neighbors, in case you are Z329*, ie. Z329+ but Z326-).

Agree with Michal.. Please join the U106 project at FamilyTreeDNA.com and mention where you have your haplogroup results from. Currently we have identified at least 30 haplogroups under the Z329/Z326 region. My personal line is 10 levels below what you have currently identified. If you have STR marker results then we might be able to show which haplogroup branch under Z329 your lineage falls under. We have an older Z326 region SNP pack which now covers about 60% of what we know. We do have a good collection of coupons for maximizing the savings from FTDNA's current sale and also promote users to consider FullGenomes Elite(currently on sale) and whole genome products which provide higher resolution results.

In terms of origin that will depend on which haplogroup branch under Z326 your lineage belongs to. The Z326 region is the most continental/Germanic region within the larger U106 haplogroup tree. We do have specific branches which reflect movement to and settlement into the British Isles via various migrations. We have some northern Poland/Scandanavian/Danzig centric groupings. Overall we need more of the 150+ lineages who have not refined their Z326 haplogroup to do so in order for the ancestral analysis to get better resolution on the ancestral origins analysis.
