    I1-Z138 : Suevi ?

The Suevi have populated western Germany from the north. Z138 originally concentrated in West Germany. So we can logically think that Z138 comes from the Suevi.

Eh, probably more along the lines of some Suevi were I-Z138 among other haplogroups.

As I understand it the Suevi were a collection of related Germanic tribes which some say had origins in Southern Scandinavia.

In relation to my own Z326 which is the most-widely dispersed of the U106 clades ( I have a match in Northern Italy), other "relatives" made it here to the UK.
I have wondered about a possible link of Z326 to the Longobards (Lombards) but it was probably in other tribal groups as well I would think. John

So what's your theory about Z138?

I'm no expert on this and my knowledge of history is limited, but looking at the distribution map in the link below it seems to appears in Italy

Could it suggest a link to the Lombards maybe ( who I think were a branch of the Suevi)? John

Z138 is no longer sure not born in italy. He was a member of the Western Germans.

There's a small market town in Norfolk near to me, called Swaffham. Said to take its name from the Suevi.

I don't think he was implying that I-Z138 originated in Italy, I think he was alluding to it potentially being tied to Lombards (note their presence in Italy). I wouldn't doubt that a large number of Western Germanic tribes had male members who were I-Z138+ (as well as I-Z140+ and various R clades too).

Yes that's correct, possibly carried from Germany to Italy by an historic migration event. Thanks. John

The Lombards were part of the Suevi.
