Could be indicative of Sephardic/Mizrahi ancestry, although FTDNA has a Sephardic category.
The word for gypsy "gitanos" in Spanish or "gitanes" in French actually has its origin in "egipcianos" / "égyptiennes" (Egyptians).

When Romani people began to arrive to Western Europe the popular belief was that they came from Egypt. I don't know to which extent that is true.

From Middle English Gipcyan, Gypcyan (Gyptian), from Old French gyptien. Short for Egyptian, from Latin aegyptius, because when Roma first appeared in England in the sixteenth century they were wrongly believed to have come from Egypt. The Albanian term Evgit, Greek γύφτος (gýftos), Italian zazza' and Spanish gitano have the same origin.

For the record, the genetic origins of all Romani peoples, is NW India/Pakistan and Anatolia/Balkans region. Not Egypt. The ethnogenesis is likely close to modern day Istanbul.

They're pretty accurate for me. I would say it's easier to be accurate when your regions are so general, except my father got 91% West and Central European, 9% Scandinavian and less than 1% British, which makes no sense. They got the regions right for him, but the percentage for West/Central Europe vs. British is way off.

When are they going to get around to updating My Origins?

    Paper trail:

Father = 50% English (early American settlers), 25% Dutch, 12.5% Danish, 8% German + some Irish, Scottish and French

Mother = 75% Ashkenazi Jewish (Russia/Ukraine) and 25% Sephardic (Turkey)

I transferred my great aunt's Ancestry results to FTDNA. She gets 99% British Isles and <1% East Middle East.

    Never?

My mom's results on FTDNA are terrible, the worst estimate we have received, it doesn't even add up.

    European 91%
    East Europe 72%
    Southeast Europe 19%

    Middle Eastern 5%
    Asia Minor 5%

    Trace results
    Finland <2%
    Siberia <1%
    Oceania <1%
    North and Central America <1%
    West Middle East <2%

I never thought I'd say this, but my MyHeritage results make much more sense than my FTDNA results. I mean, I'm supposed to have at least a little Portuguese.

Actually they are not that bad in my opinion. Generally speaking FTDNA is okay for Eastern and Southeastern Europeans. 72% Eastern Europe, 24% SE Europe & Asia Minor (Asia Minor might be some type of SE Europe/Balkan as well) = 96%. Oceania, America, the Middle East are mostly noise. Varying amounts of Finland and Siberia are normal for East Slavs. My Northeastern Russian mother is 21% Finland and 5% Siberian if I remember correctly.

I prefer her Ancestry results: 86% Eastern Europe and Russia, 12% Baltic States, 2% Greece & Balkans. FTDNA results have way too many small categories.
