Both of my parents have patronymic Irish surnames.

There isn't certainty on what my dad's surname means but the possibilities are Bright-Headed, Troublesome (strife) or Frequenting Churches.

My mum's surname means Fair Snow so pretty much Snow White.

Unfortunately, I'll probably never know for 100% sure. The name itself (Anglo-Saxon), and the earliest colonial ancestors being members of of the Church of England point to....well, English. However, membership of the Church of England in 1600s colonial Virginia might have been compulsory. To date, we have never had any Y-dna matches with any tested person from the UK with the surname.

My surname is Dutch in origin. And if I'm not mistaken, it denotes the area of the Netherlands that my family resided in.
