    Yeah, the assimilation scenario didn't cross my mind, that's very possible.

    I don't know how the map maker of Eupedia makes his maps, but if the frequency in Italy is correct, it matches Etruscan territory, that language is connected to Rhaetian, which is Alpine, I don't make the claim that they were all G-L497, but it was one of their lineages.

    There must have been conflict, but I think a plague from the Steppe played a more decisive role.

    I took the Ydna 37 . heres a comparision between 12 and 36. Most of the matches in Y37 are ruthenian based in ukraine / poland ( plus a random one from Portugal and north ireland ).YDNA FTDNA.png

    I also put my YSTRS into haplotype predictors. Most came to being 100 percent positive L497

    If your marker DYS388=13 then yes, you are G-L497. Did you test at FTDNA? If so you can join the project there to see if there is a close 37 marker match for further refinement.
