Not too far from where Cornwallis is buried (on the bank of the Ganges).
Xuanzang reported a Kushan monastery (aviddha-kanna) in the area.

With a lot of help from Parasar, I finally reached out to my aunt in Massachussetts who is the great granddaughter of Syed Mohammad Sami Ahmad, re-establishing contact for the first time in 102 years and 28 days, they left India on 19th May 1919. Ironically they also left India in the midst of a great pandemic, the Spanish flu. She has another sister who lives in the UK who has been researching their family history too.

I really appreciate this as most of my family members who were searching for his descendants have since passed away in the last few years.

Syed Mohammad Sami Ahmad had another sister called Aziz-un-Nisa whose descendants now live in Australia, they have been searching too and have now been informed.

Kushan coins were found in Nepal Terai districts as well. Perhaps a pilgrim brought there or a Kushan site in Nepal eroded.

Yes that makes a lot of sense. It appears those coins were made of copper and are quite common today.

This is a Kushan gold dinar found in Nalanda district, Bihar which may have belonged to a Buddhist pilgrim:

Btw the article mentions Basti district, Uttar Pradesh which is where my mother was born.

I finally have a picture of my great grandaunt Nessa Violet Sami, this is her on the right with her husband Clifford Martin Haynes on their wedding day in 1942:

She did resemble my mum's female maternal relatives a bit.

Apparently her descendants have preserved the law degree and correspondences of my great great granduncle Syed Mohammad Sami which is quite surprising to say the least.

I am planning to meet one of Nessa Violet Sami's descendants hopefully next month.

Thank you to everyone here for helping to make this possible, especially Parasar.

Btw a Kushan coin hoard was apparently found in 1949 in Bindwal (birthplace of Maulana Shibli Nomani), just over 7km away from Chhihi which was the birthplace of Nessa's father.

The coins were mainly of those struck by Kanishka and Huvishka, it supports the general consensus that Kushan rule extended into Uttar Pradesh during the reign of those two kings:

#035 Bindwal, Azamgarh. Found in 1949 this hoard consisted of 32 Kanishka and 78 Huvishka (using all three obverses so presumably early main mint coins). The report in JNSI XII contains a remark typical of the way single hoards have been used without context 'That this hoard should contain no coins of Vasudeva and Wima Kadphises would tend to show that the Kushana rule over the U.P. was confined to the reigns of Kanishka and Huvishka only'.

    http://www.kushan.org/sources/coin/copperhoards.htm

Early main mints could mean Greek coins of Kanishka:

AE didrachm or half unit, c. 127 CE
Weight: 8.91 gm., Diam: 22-23 mm., Die axis: 12 o'clock
Crowned, diademed king standing facing, holding spear and sacrificing at altar at left,
Greek legend around: BACIΛEYC BACI ... ΛEWN KANHþKOY
(King of Kings Kanishka Kushan) /
Solar deity Helios standing facing, with head turned to left, one hand on hip, the other raised in blessing,
Greek legend right: HΛIOC, tamgha at left
    Göbl 766, MAC 3065-69

    http://coinindia.com/galleries-kanishka.html

And probably this common king on elephant type of Huvishka, I have this coin:

    INDIA.Kushan kingdom.Huvishka 150-190 AD.AE.Tetradrachma. (10.78g, 25mm, 12 )

King riding elephant right, diademed and holding spear in right hand.
Reverse. APΔOXPO, Goddess Ardoksho stnading right holding cornucopiae in right hand, tamgha in front.
    better than very fine.
