    Asia minor

    Hello community !
I would like to know, what you guys think about asia minor ? Geno 2.0 and ftdna gave me both a very small percentage of asia minor (2%). The results of my father have shown that he has 10% asia minor. Since I do not know very much of my family, my grandmother recently told me, that my GGgrandfather, the grandfather of my grandfather was jewish. I read about some theories that asian minor could be sephardic ? Unfortunately I never met my grandfather and so I am not able to ask him about this recent unknown ancestor. My great grandfather was a medditeranean type. It all seems like a big family secret. Do you have other ideas what it could be ? What about the sicilian-Theorie? Turkish?
My great grandfather was a medditeranean Typ.

    Thank you !

P.s. forgot to say, that my great grandfather was an illegitimate child, so I do not know the name of his father - at least, as far as I know.

My mom is 50% Southern Italian/Sicilian. At FTDNA she comes up as 30% Middle Eastern Anatolian. This is due to the Neolithic, and Mid East migrations, and trade during Roman rule. Most Southern Italians come up with this admixture. The Anatolian could be Sephardi. Lot's of Jewish gene flow through Anatolia..

Thank you Tz85 ... is the anatolian percentage of your mom also classified as asia minor or is there an extra specific anatolia in MO ?

I think you have to be careful with small percentages because they may just reflect early ancestry or shared origins, it may not be from the place you think it is. Having said that I fairly consistently get results that suggest some Central Asian or Steppe Ancestry although it isn't always described in that way ( I'm British). I've had all sorts, Balkan, Steppe Turkic, Finnish, Ashkenazi, Kalash etc. John

Thank you, very interesting John ! But isn't it significant that the percentage raises that much from me to my father ?

It depends on admixture results. For example FTDNA shows 30% Middle Eastern Anatolia. All Asia Minor. However DNA Tribes SNP Analysis shows in much more detail, for example, it's broken down into Sephardi Turkey, Syrian, etc.

I never heard about that company ! That's really exciting. Maybe you know if it's also possible to do this test with geno 2.0 NG transferred to ftdna raw data ? Do you know how accurate their results are?

If you want to find out if you have jewish ancestry you should test via 23andme, it's best at picking Ashkenazi admixture.
