DNA Reveals Progenitor of Important Medical Family, Shipwrecked in Anglesey in the 1700s as a Child, was from the Caucasus

The DNA project aimed at understanding the ancestry of the Anglesey Bonesetter as apparently attributed this ancestry to the Caucaus and a clade of R-P312 called R-S250.

Jim Wilson et al. sequenced the Y and found 13 novel SNPs in this lineage that, so far, have not appeared in any of the 1,000+ samples WIlson has access to. They'd seem to be good candidates for Eastern European R-P312 lineages.

The DNA project aimed at understanding the ancestry of the Anglesey Bonesetter as apparently attributed this ancestry to the Caucaus and a clade of R-P312 called R-S250.

The attribution to the Caucasus was apparently based solely on the Y chromosome, even though their lab sequenced the entire genome. The Y-DNA haplotype is in Ysearch as D3786:

If we consider only the 54 slower markers (out of FTDNA's usual 67), 7 different entries are at a distance of 4. But of these, only one has 12 at DYS393 and 10 at DYS385a: BKR92 of Puerto Rico (but with patrilineage from Spain).

I suspect that if the entire genome were analyzed by Dienekes' K12b, it would fall near the Iberian samples.

I now realize that the whole-genome sequencing was performed on a patrilineal descendant of the Anglesey Bonesetter, not on the long-deceased Bonesetter himself. Hence, autosomal ancestry classification would be of no practical use in this case. The purpose of the sequencing was solely to identify new Y-SNPs that could be used to find the Bonesetter's original patrilineal ethnic group.
