    R1b DF27>Z196>Z272>DF17

    Hello I did the Nevgen Haplogroup Predictor for Y-67 STR and it came up 96.2 % probability R1b DF27>Z196>Z272>DF17.
    I have not done a SNP test as yet so my question's are, How accurate is this predictor ? What is known about this Haplogroup ? And what do you think my next step should be ? Thank you for any feedback !

    He posted on the "Activity Feed" of the DF27 project Feb. 17, and we had a little chat. I'm not familiar with the Nevgen Y-haplogroup Predictor of which he speaks. It's easy to find but doesn't load very soon, so I quit waiting. Do you (John) know if DF17 has a particular STR signature? If I ever knew that, I've forgotten, so in effect it's news to me; it might be useful to others, who would be interested.

    Yes, DF17 has some odd values which make it easy to predict:
    DYS390=23
    DYS19=15
    DYS437=15
    DYS448=18

    I did my 67 and 111 STRs with the Nevgen Y-haplogroup Predictor and to my surprise the prediction was correct for my upstream Z2573 SNP.

    Good to know, I haven't been using haplogroup predictors for about four years, but I do occasionally look for off-modal signatures for a specific subgroup. Just as a rule of thumb, a well designed program is going to be able to mine and analyze public FTDNA projects a lot more efficiently than I can. This NevGen one looks pretty well designed, and is frequently updated. I posted about it elsewhere. (I have no idea how it compares with the Excel spreadsheets MikeWww has been creating in several Yahoo groups for R1b and its subclades. Many people come to the table knowing enough, from basic SNP testing, to skip these predictor programs.) Meanwhile, let's try to keep this specific thread on the DF17 topic.

    Yes these are my STR values ! So I suppose the Nevgen is accurate Thanks most distant Paternal 1650 Rhineland Pflaz Germany

    These are my STR values Nevgen has been recently updated it now has me at 98.5 probability of DF27>Z196>Z272>DF17 with 57.7 fitness. My Paternal line is from Rhineland Pfalz Germany with Church records back to 1650. Thanks for any feedback
