    Finnish?

    Neither Ancestry,FTDNA or 23andMe have given me Finnish. However My Heritage gave me 2.1 %. Dna land 23andMe upload 4% .Dna tribes 8.5%(FTDNA) 8.6% (Ancestry) 8.3%(23andMe)

    Dr McDonald suggested Spain= 0.164 Irish= 0.836 or
    French= 0.292 Irish= 0.708 or
    Irish= 0.865 Tuscan= 0.135 or
    English= 0.875 Russian= 0.125 or
    Irish= 0.844 Italian= 0.156 or
    English= 0.867 Finland= 0.133 or
    French= 0.669 Finland= 0.331 or

    Irish= 0.418 English= 0.582 or
    Irish= 0.928 Sardinia= 0.072

    MTDNA matches for probable Finnish at Geni only amount to 0.646%.

    23andMe dna relatives search only brings up Finland once. Ancestry location search gives 19 matches.

    A small amount of Finnish may be more likely than the very small Amazonian/NA I have got from various sites but I suspect this too may be noise.

    I understand Finnish (or similar to ) comes up for quite a lot of North Europeans. I get it on some tests but not others. It may not mean actual Finnish ancestry. I also get things like Native American (British). I wouldn't take it too literally. John

    That's the problem ,I have quite a literal mind. If it says a (small) amount of X then I very much entertain that possibility. The frustrating thing is not knowing for sure about such things especially if the admixture stated is above 2%.
    My paper trail is British but I only have full ancestry up to 3 gt. After that it's very patchy. An educated guess would say earlier ancestors will also be British but there's always the big "What if?"

    I know below 2% it can be very iffy whether it's noise or real. Sometimes I think something may be real but at a much lower level than a test predicts.

    2% is roughly 4gt level (1.56) . For a connection going back to 5th and 6th gt(0.78 and 0.39) . Admixture tests are very unreliable with such small amounts as to whether it's a small amount of real admixture or noise.
    I am sure there are ways of firming up whether such small amounts may be real but (a) It's beyond my expertise level (b) We are talking about degrees of certainty rather than absolute certainty.

    Given the strange nMonte results I got for MDLP K16 using my My heritage data(see that thread) I am very much tempted to question the reliability of the My heritage test giving 2.1 Finnish, 0.8 NA.

    Have a look at my Chromo 2 comparison, the first test I did. I took it all literally, Ashkenaki? Native American? Finnish?
    I've had Baloch and Kalash ( North West Pakistan region, so possibly Steppe ancestry or even Roma I've been told)
    However, when looking at some other tests and calculators some common factors seem to show up, although sometimes with different labels. I'm no expert but when small percentages keep coming up, possibly there may be a grain of truth there somewhere. I think for example my "Native American" may reflect something from Asia that went West into Europe instead of East into North America. I was wondering at one point about the Huns. I also have a potential archaic match with Altai Siberia.
    My understanding is we are looking at comparisons with modern populations but what we may be seeing is glimpses of very old ancestry maybe? John
